Renault's Kubica and Petrov unwrap the R30
Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov have unveiled the Renault R30, the team's new car for the 2010 season.
The R30 marks a big change for the Enstone based squad, which is mirrored in the driver lineup, car livery, and both team management and ownership.
The livery is a striking "bumble bee" yellow and black affair which hankers back to the Renaults of the 70's and 80's.
While the livery is striking, the car itself looks rather lack-lustre to me. Incredibly similar to the R29, if they'd painted it ING colours I'm sure 9 out of 10 fans wouldn't have noticed. The front wing has none of the detail of either the MP4-25 or C29, and while it has a shark-fin much like the two aforementioned cars it is nearly identical to the one on the R29.
As well as the car the team also announced that Vitaly Petrov will partner Robert Kubica for 2010. The 25-year-old will become the first Russian to race in Formula 1. Ho-Pin Tung also joins as third driver.
Do you love or hate the distinctive livery? And the car underneath?
Looks like Jon was right about Petrov's sponsorship after all.
Glad to see Petrov got the seat, the guy looks to have real promise and i hope he goes well in his first season.
As to the car, i wondering what work Renault have actually done over the winter? Doesn't look like much to me. Mind you I can't see much as i'm blinded by his horrific bumble bee livery - i think its absolutely awful!
Anatoly; I'm sure you're very happy to see Petrov on the grid, I'm excited to see how he goes this year!
I love the new livery, although they need to bring back Rene Arnoux to drive it hehe!
It doesn't look particularly different to last years car though!
I've since heard that it was infact a show car they unveiled today - they still claim it's the R30 though!
Apparently it was a monster to get it on the right angle for the photos, because it only goes in straight lines!
I'm expecting something a little different to hit the track tomorrow morning. Hopefully!
