Button enjoys Turkey with all the trimmings
Jenson Button has won his 6th race of the season as Sebastian Vettel couldn't make the most of his pole position and finished 3rd.
Button was simply in another league. On the first lap after initially slotting in behind the German he forced him into a mistake which let the Britton past, from there he never looked back. He then posted purple sector after purple sector, fastest lap after fastest lap and built a commanding lead. Vettel had a lighter car and had to pit first, compounding Buttons advantage.
Red Bull kept Vettel on a 3-stop strategy, and in his lighter middle stint it looked like he was going to take the fight to Button. He got right on the gearbox of the Brawn but couldn't make a passing move stick.
In the end Vettel's strategy saw the impressive (2-stopping) Mark Webber take 2nd off him as well. Vettel looked bitterly disappointed after the race and on the podium - this is the first time he hasn't won when he's been on pole.
Rubens Barrichello had a disaster of a start, the anti-stall kicked in, but the damage was done. And the race didn't get any better for the Brazillian, he tussled with Heikki Kovalainen - a great battle, the much faster Brawn was repeatedly thwarted by the McLaren KERS device. Rubens tried a half chance up the inside and made contact with Heikki, that sent him into a spin and he lost more places, ending up behind the other McLaren of Lewis Hamilton.
He made light work of the Brit, but came unstuck again while trying to get past the Force India of Adrian Sutil. Damaging his front wing, prompted an unscheduled early pit stop and that was his race all but over. And that's the way it turned out, later in the race he lost 7th gear and eventually retired ten laps from the end.
Throughout the race there was a brilliant scrap between Ferrari, Williams, and Toyota for 4th, 5th and 6th places. Rosberg jumped Trulli in the first pit stops, but then Jarno got it back in the second, and that's how it finished.
Nakajima drove a solid race, and certainly deserved much more than the 12th he leaves Istanbull with. On a one-stop strategy he ran as high as 5th, but a problem with the front-left tyre meant he had to come in again, and a points position was lost.
Red Bull, with the full effect of their new double diffuser were expected to do well in Turkey, and while they can be happy cutting Brawn's lead by 4 points, they have to admit Jenson was again a class above.
While England's cricketers lament their loss to the Netherlands in the Twenty20, Jenson Button has hit the 2009 F1 Championship for 6. Six wins from seven races, this man is unstoppable.
