Debut & Red Bull (2005)

Liuzzi tested for Sauber and Red Bull in late 2004, resulting in a drive with the Red Bull squad. However he was to share the seat with Christian Klien. In the end Liuzzi raced four grands prix (San Marino, Spain, Monaco and Europe) and Klien took the seat for the rest of the season. In his debut he took 8th position and his first world championship point, however this was only after both BARs were disqualified, and Ralph Schumacher's Toyota was given a 25 second penalty.

Toro Rosso (2006-2007)

Red Bull bought the Minardi (became Toro Rosso) team in 2006 and Liuzzi was given a race seat alongside Scott Speed. He scored his (and the teams) only point that season at the United States Grand Prix, after many cars were taken out of the race in the first corner.

Tonio was kept on at Toro Rosso for the 2007 season and although the team struggled for pace throughout the campaign, he and his teammate took 6th and 4th (respectively) in the Chinese Grand Prix.

Force India (2008-2010)

He was left without a seat after Sebastien Bourdas was confirmed for Toro Rosso partnering Sebatian Vettel. On January 10th 2008 it was announced that he would join Force India as test driver.

With Giancarlo Fisichella moving to Ferrari mid-way through the 2009 season, Tonio was promoted to the race seat from the Italian Grand Prix to the end of the year. He drove solidly for the 5 races he competed in, retiring only in 1 of them. Although he did not score any points for Force India.

HRT (2011)

Liuzzi was confirmed at HRT 9th March 2011.
