Stephane became test driver for Prost in 1999, after driving for the junior team in F3000.

Debut & Minardi (1999)

In Brazil, the second round of the championship he was drafted in to drive for Minardi in place of Luca Badoer who has broken his wrist in testing. Despite not having driven the car before he did nothing short of impressing. He qualified 17th ahead of both Arrows, and 0.7 seconds ahead of his teammate.

The race started well and he managed to get as high as 11th place, but at the end of lap 31 he suffered front wing failure which sent him into a huge accident. Luckily he emerged unscathed.

Test Driver Prost (2001) & Toyota (2002)

Tragically that was to be his first and last grand prix. He stayed at the Prost team until 2001, and then moved to Toyota for 2002, but always in a testing role.
