Romain despite being born in Switzerland, competes under a French racing license, he holds dual nationality between the two countries.

He was the 2007 Formula Three Euroseries Champion, and 2008 GP2 Asia Champion.

Renault Tester (2008) & Race Driver (2009)

In 2008 he became the Renault team test driver, however due to testing restrictions he has had little time in the F1 car. But it wasn't till the 18th August 2009 that Romain was confirmed to be replacing Nelson Piquet Jnr, who had been sacked by the team after a string of poor performances. Grosjean would be partnering Fernando Alonso for the remainder of the 2009 season.

His first race was at the European GP in Valencia where he finished 15th, but any hopes that the young Frenchman would do better than Piquet Jr. were in vain. His best result came at the Brazilian GP where he finished a dismal 13th. At times Grosjean looked to be unable to control the car underneath him as was involved in a 1st lap incident in Belgium where he collided with Championship leader Jenson Button, ending both their races. It looks doubtful for Grosjean to retain his seat at Renault going into 2010.
