Karun Chandhok began racing back in India winning an unprecedented 10 pole positions and 7 victories to become the Indian National Racing Champion of 2000. He spent the next couple of years bouncing around Formula 3 and Formula Renault before landing a drive in GP2 for the 2007 season.
Racing for Durango he claimed his maiden win Spa during the sprint race. 2008 saw him switch to iSport International and was partnered by Bruno Senna. He claimed yet another victory but was 10th overall that year. 2009 saw him move again, this time to Ocean Racing Technology, but it proved to be a disappointing season for the Indian driver.
F1 Debut & HRT (2010)
After already testing for the Red Bull Racing Team back in 2007, Karun Chandhok had his sights firmly set on making the step up to Formula 1. He was linked with drives for the new Lotus Team as well as Force India. However on the 4th March he was confirmed as a driver for Hispania Racing F1 Team. He will partner his former GP2 teammate Bruno Senna.
Team Lotus (2011)
22nd March 2011 and Chandhok was confirmed as reserve driver for Team Lotus/
