Renault Test Driver (2004-2005)
Franck earned himself a test for the Renault F1 team after impressing in the World Series by Nissan, as a result of the test he became the test driver, a position he held in 2004 and 2005. He also did a one-off test for Jordan where he clocked a time quicker than either of the two regular Jordan drivers.
Super Aguri (2006)
Franck joined Super Aguri in 2006 as third driver, however was promoted to a race seat when Ide was dropped for errattic driving, he then was replaced by Sakon Yamamoto following the French Grand Prix. In his 7 F1 starts Franck's best position was 16th.
Toyota Test Driver (2007)
He joined Toyota as test driver for the 2007 season. Yet at the end of 2009 Montagny admitted interest in returning to a full time race seat in F1 and has been lined to Renault for 2010.
Outwith Formula 1, he has raced in the American Le Mans series, and also a race in Champ Car. During 2004 Franck took the role of development driver for the car to be used in the new GP2 series.
